KitchenAid Built-In Microwave Oven Magnetron Sensor Replacement

ATTENTION: TOOLS & ASSISTANCE NEEDED

"Step 1: You will need a regular Phillips-head screwdriver, a flat-head screwdriver, a T-10 Torx bit, a T-20 Torx bit, and an assistant to help move heavy microwave."

"Step 2: Before you begin, be sure to turn off the power supply to your microwave."

Step 3: Open the oven door and remove any racks fro the oven along with the turntable and support.

Step 4: Now use a Phillips-head screwdriver to unthread the two screws securing the mounting flanges to the cabinet.

Step 5: Remove the washers as well if still intact.

Step 6: Now have an assistant to help you pull the appliance out of the cabinet and set it on a sturdy surface.

Step 7: Be aware that if the conduit cable is not long enough to move the microwave oven you will need to disconnect the power and grounding wires and remove the conduit cable from the junction box.

Step 8: Use a Phillips-head screwdriver or a quarter-inch nut driver to unthread the four screws securing the top acces panel.

Step 9: Lift the panel up then slide foward to remove.

Step 10: Use a small flat-head screwdriver to depress the retaining tabs to help detach the inverter board vent cover.

Step 11: You'll need to untrhead the screw to release the thin metal retainer to fully remove the cover.

Step 12: Unthread all of the screws securing the right side panel.

"Step 13: With the panel removed, you can use a T-20 Torx bit to unthread the four magnetron mounting screws. "

"Step 14: To fully release the magnetron, you will need to detach the cavity vent assembly. Pull the front and side retaining tabs back to release the main control board and move it out of the way. "

Step 15: Detach the retaining spring and lift out the light bulb.

Step 16: Unthread the screws securing the power supply board mounting plate.

Step 17: Move the plate and board out of the way.

Step 18: Disconnect the communication wire from the user interface board.

Step 19: Rotate the vent damper actuator clockwise to detach it from the vent assembly.

Step 20: Unthread the scrws securing the cavity vent assembly. Set the assembly aside.

Step 21: Disconnect the wire connecter from the magnetron.

Step 22: Disconnect the wire connecter from the magnetron.

"Step 22: Turn the magnetron over, note the location of the sensor. Use a T-10 to unthread the screw to release the sensor. "

Step 23: Disconnect the sensor wire from the main contro board to fully remove.

Step 24: Install the new magnetron sensor by connecting the wire to the control board.

Step 25: Secure the sensor to the magnetron with the screw.

"Step 26: Before remounting the magnetron inspect the gasket for damage. If the gasket is frayed or burnt, you should replace the magnetron with a new one. "

Step 27: Insert the magnetron Antenna into the wave guide as you position the componet on the mounting plate.

Step 28: Thread and tighten the four mounting screws to secure.

Step 29: Position the sensor wire in the notch under the vent cover base.

Step 30: Reconnect the magnetron wire connector.

Step 31: Reposition the cavity vent assembly.

Step 32: Thread the screws to secure. Make sure the switch wires are secured in the vent assembly notch.

Step 33: Reinsert the vent damper actuator into the vent assembly and rotate coutner-clockwise to lock it into place.

Step 34: Realign the power supply board mounting plate and secure it with the screws.

Step 35: Reinsert the light bulb into the hole and secure it with the retaining spring.

Step 36: Replace the main control board by first positioning the read edge under the tabs then secure the board under the front and side tabs.

Step 37: Realign the side panel and replace the screws.

Step 38: Reposition the vent cover and snap it into position.

Step 39: Insert the retainer through the rear panel and thread the screw to hold it in place.

Step 40: Replace the top access panel by inserting the read edge first.

Step 41: Secure it with the screws.

"Step 41: With an assistant, return the microwave oven to the cabinet and push it into position. "

Step 42: Insert the washers into the holes in the flanges then thread the two screws to secure the flanges to the cabinet.

Step 43: Replace the support and align the turntable on the coupling.

Step 44: Turn on the power supply back on to the microwave.
