Washer won't spin

Washing machine water inlet and dispenser valve assembly. If the washer does not fill properly the valve may be resticted and need replacement. We do not recommend taking inlet valves apart and trying to clean them due to the risk of failure after repair.

The water inlet valve opens to allow water to enter the washing machine. If the water inlet valve is defective, the wash may fill slowly or not fill at all. The water inlet valve requires sufficient water pressure to function properly. First, check the water pressure to determine that it is adequate. If the water pressure is adequate, try cleaning the screens inside the water inlet valve hose connection ports. If the washer still fills slowly, replace the water inlet valve.

Washer is making loud noise

If the washer is noisy or loud, particularly when the washer is filling, the water inlet valve may be at fault. Over time, mineral deposits can build up inside the valve and cause a restriction. If the water inlet valve is restricted, it will make noise during the fill cycle. If the water inlet valve is defective, replace it. Do not attempt to repair the water inlet valve—taking apart the valve makes it susceptible to failure.

Washer won't agitate

To properly advance into the various wash cycles, the proper amount of water needs to enter the tub during the fill cycle. A defective or clogged water inlet valve may not allow enough water to enter the tub preventing the washer from going into the agitation cycle. The water inlet valve itself requires sufficient water pressure to function properly. First, check the water pressure to determine that it is adequate. If the water pressure is adequate, try cleaning the screens inside the water inlet valve hose connection ports. If the washer still doesn't fill adequately, replace the water inlet valve.

A washing machine water inlet valve allows water to fill the tub prior to the agitation and rinse cycles. If water is leaking out of the washer during a fill cycle, it's likely the water inlet valve or a hose connected to it is damaged. Inspect the valve housing for any cracks and the attached hoses for holes or tears and replace if necessary.

Washer won't start

To properly advance into the various wash cycles, the proper amount of water needs to enter the tub during the fill cycle. A defective or clogged water inlet valve may not allow enough water to enter the tub for the washer to start. The water inlet valve itself requires sufficient water pressure to function properly. Washer overflowing

Try shutting off power to the washer while the machine is filling with water. If the washer continues to fill with water even when it is not getting power, this indicates that the water inlet valve is defective. If the water inlet valve is defective, replace it.

Washer stops mid cycle

During the rinse cycle, the water inlet valve opens to allow water to enter the wash tub. If the water inlet valve fails, the washer will continue waiting for the water to enter the washer, causing it to stop mid-cycle. To determine if the water inlet valve is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the water inlet valve does not have continuity, replace it.

Washer dispenser not working properly

The dispenser uses water from the inlet valve to flush out the detergent and fabric softener from the dispenser. If the water flow is too slow the dispenser will not distribute the detergent and softener properly. The water inlet valve requires at least 20 psi to function properly. First, check the water pressure to determine that it is adequate. If the water pressure is adequate, replace the water inlet valve.

The water inlet valve opens to allow water to enter the washing machine. If the water inlet valve is defective, the wash may fill slowly or not fill at all. Washer water is the wrong temperature

A defective water inlet valve may only be allowing one temperature of water to fill the tub. In addition, some water inlet valves will have a temperature sensor built in to determine whether more hot or cold water should be released to maintain an appropriate water temperature in the tub. If the valve's sensor is faulty, the incoming water may be the wrong temperature. In either case, a defective inlet valve should be replaced with a new one.
