Step By Step Instructions

To replace the mode shifter in your ge washer, you will need an impact driver with a 1/4” bit, pliers, a 3/8” socket, a pulley remover, ¼” socket adapter, and a 1/4” socket adapter.

Before you begin the procedure, unplug the power to the washer.

Shut off the water supply

Remove the drain line from the wall

Remove the hot and cold-water supply lines from the inlet valve.

Prop up the washer. you can use a wooden block or chair.

Unthread the three screws on the protective belt cover to remove it.

Pull the belt off of the big pulley first then remove it.

Using the 14mm socket, unthread the nut.

Attach the pulley remover to the pulley and tighten down until the pulley comes off.

Depress the tab and unplug the mode shifter.

Unthread the two screws securing the shifter.

Pull the shifter away from the clutch. the spring and clutch will come off with the shifter.

To install the new mode shifter, slide the spring over the shaft, then align the splines and slide the clutch onto the shaft.

Place the shifter on the clutch and insert the pegs into the transmission. hold it in position while starting the first screw, once threaded, rethread the other screw and tighten both.

Plug in the shifter.

Slide the pulley on the shaft and line it up with the splines, then thread the nut onto the shaft. while tightening, the pulley will seat into position.

Place the belt ribside facing inward over the big pulley then stretch the belt over the small pulley.

Rotate the pulleys to align the belt properly.

Align the cover and start one of the three screws.

Place the grounding connector over the screw and rethread it to the bottom of the transmission.

Now rethread the last screw.

Prop up the washer.

Reattatch the hot and cold-water supply lines.

Insert the drain hose back into the wall drain.

Turn on the water supply

Plug in the power.
