Step By Step Instructions

1
To replace the water inlet valve in this kitchenaid dishwasher, you will need a 5/16th inch nut driver, a quarter-inch nut driver, a phillips-head screwdriver, a small flat-head screwdriver, pliers, needle-nose pliers, channel-lock pliers, and, potentially, an adjustable wrench.
2
Before you begin the procedure, turn off the power to the dishwasher.
3
Shut off the water supply valve.
4
If necessary to provide more slack, use the adjustable wrench to unthread the water supply line from the valve – be prepared for some water to spill.
5
Disconnect the drain hose from the sink drain or garbage disposer, and feed it through the cabinet.
6
Use the 5/16th inch nut driver to unthread the two screws securing the lower access panel and toe panel to the frame.
7
With the screws unthreaded, you can set the panels aside.
8
Pull out the remaining insulation.
9
Use the quarter-inch nut driver to unthread the screw securing the junction box cover.
10
Detach the cover.
11
Using the phillips-head screwdriver, unthread the screws to release the black and white power wires from the right side of the terminal block.
12
Unthread the screw to release the grounding wire as well.
13
Now depress the retaining tab and slide the junction box to the left to detach it from the support bar.
14
Use the needle-nose pliers to help unthread the strain relief nut.
15
Pull the power line through the junction box.
16
Hook the junction box back on the support bar to keep it out of the way.
17
Next, open the dishwasher door and unthread the two screws securing the dishwasher mounting brackets to the cabinet or countertop.
18
To move the dishwasher, you may need to thread the legs further into the base to lower the appliance.
19
Now gently pull the dishwasher away from the cabinet, then tip the appliace back so it rests on its rear panel.
20
For better access to the water inlet valve, depress the two retaining tabs to release the drip tray.
21
Use the channel-lock pliers to unthread the water supply line elbow fitting from the inlet valve.
22
Depress the retaining tab to release the inlet valve mounting bracket.
23
Use the pliers to release the clamp to detach the outlet hose from water inlet assembly.
24
Now use the small flat-head screwdriver to release the retaining clip securing the wire connecter.
25
With the clip released, you can disconnect the wire connecter to fully remove the old inlet valve.
26
To install the new water inlet valve, first connect the wire connecter and secure it with the retaining clip.
27
Attach the new outlet hose to the port on the water inlet assembly and secure it with the clamp.
28
Align the valve bracket on the support bar and slide left to snap it into position on the retaining tab.
29
Thread the water supply line elbow fitting onto the new valve and tighten.
30
Realign and snap the drip tray into place if required.
31
Return the dishwasher to its upright position.
32
Reposition the insulation as necessary.
33
Confirm that the end of the drain hose is accessible through the cabinet wall, then gently slide the dishwasher back into the cabinet.
34
Extend the front leveling legs if necessary.
35
Rethread the screws to secure the mounting brackets to the cabinet or countertop.
36
Detach the junction box from the support bar.
37
Feed the power line wires through the rear of the box.
38
Thread the strain relief nut to secure.
39
Realign the junction box on the support bar and slide right to snap it into position on the retaining tab.
40
Realign the black and white power wires on the appropriate terminals on the right side of the terminal block and thread the screws to secure.
41
Thread the screw to secure the grounding wire to the junction box.
42
Reposition the junction box cover and replace the screw.
43
Realign the insulation.
44
Now realign the toe panel and insulation, then reposition the access panel, and thread the two screws to secure.
45
Attach the drain hose to the sink drain or garbage disposer and secure with the clamp.
46
Confirm the hose is elevated above the connection point to help prevent water from flowing back into the dishwasher.
47
Reattach the water supply line to the water supply valve if necessary.
48
Turn the water supply back on, as well as the power, and the dishwasher should be ready for use.
