Description

This video provides step-by-step instructions for installing the seal kit (replacing the seals it contains) on Frigidaire Affinity top-load washing machines. The most common reason for replacing one of the seals is if it is broken or worn, causing the washer to leak water.

All of the information in this seal kit installation video is applicable to the following brands: Frigidaire

Tools used: #2 square-bit screwdriver, flat-head screwdriver, Phillips head screwdriver, small flat-head screwdriver, 1/2” socket

Step By Step Instructions

Before you replace the seal seat and head in your washer Unplug the power cord.

Use a number two square-bit screwdriver to remove the mounting screws securing the bottom of the front panel.

With the screws removed, slide the panel down and pull it out to detach.

Next, remove the mounting screws securing the side panels to the main top.

Lift up the lid and use a flat-head screwdriver to help detach the latch assembly.

Remove the bleach dispenser cover.

Use a phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screw securing the dispenser.

Depress the tabs to release the dispenser from the main top.

You can now lift up the main top and support it.

Use pliers to help release the retaining clamp securing the recirculation hose to the tub ring pull the hose off and detach it from the retainer.

Next, release the tabs securing the tub ring to the outer tub.

Pull the tub ring off.

Insert a small flat-head screwdriver into the wash plate cap and press down to release the locking tab then rotate the cap counter-clockwise to remove.

Next, use a half-inch socket to remove the washer plate mounting bolts.

With the bolts removed, you can lift out the wash plate.

Now, remove the bolts securing the inner tub to the trunnion.

Lift out the inner tub.

Remove the bolt and washer securing the trunnion.

Secure a gear puller to the trunnion and use the puller to help lift the trunnion off of the drive shaft.

Secure the shaft as you rotate and pull the old seal seat to remove – this will probably require some effort.

Use a screwdriver to help release the old seal head.

You’re now ready to install the new seal seat and head.

Slide the new seal head over the drive shaft and press it into place.

Apply a small amount of water to the new seal seat and push the seat onto the head.

Realign the trunnion on the drive shaft and secure it with the bolt and washer.

You should torque the bolt to 50 foot pounds.

Replace the inner tub and align it so all of the bolt holes line up.

Replace the bolts and torque them to 16 foot pounds.

Reposition the wash plate.

Rethread the mounting bolts and torque the bolts to 16 foot pounds.

Replace the wash plate cap and rotate clockwise to lock it into place.

Confirm that the cap locking tab prevents the cap from rotating.

Realign the tub ring and snap it into place.

Reattach the recirculation hose to the port on the tub ring and secure it with the clamp.

Snap the hose into the retainer.

Remove the support and lower the main top.

Confirm that the pins in the side of the panels are aligned with the holes in the top.

Snap the bleach dispenser into place on the main top.

Rethread the screw.

Replace the cover.

Next, secure the latch assembly in the main top.

Replace the front panel by inserting the panel tabs into the slots in the side panels.

Push the panel up into position and replace the mounting screws.

With the repair completed plug the power cord back in and your washer should be ready for use.
