Tools used: multi-screwdriver, T25 Torx screwdriver, flat-head bit
Step-By-Step Instructions1
Before you replace the ignition coil on your chainsaw first make sure the engine has cooled and that the on-off switch is in the “off” position.

Now use a t-25 torx bit screwdriver to unthread the screws securing the top cover.

Pull the cover off – this may require some effort.

Now set the chainsaw on its side and remove the screws securing the recoil starter.

You will need remove the screw securing the left side of the chain brake handle as well and move the handle out of the way.

Unthread the caps from the gas and oil tanks.

You can now pull the starter off.

Rethread the oil and gas caps to prevent spillage.

Remove the spark plug wire and boot from the spark plug.

Now disconnect the ignition coil wire.

Confirm that the flywheel magnets are rotated out of the way then remove the mounting screws securing the old ignition coil.

Pull the old coil free.

Install the new ignition coil by aligning it on the engine.

Thread the mounting screws loosely and remember to secure the grounding wire under the upper screw.

Now pull the coil back and tighten the screws.

Insert a business card between the coil and flywheel then rotate the flywheel so the magnets align with the coil.

Loosen the screws to align the coil the correct distance from the flywheel.

Re-tighten the screws and remove the card.

Connect the ignition coil wire to the new coil.

Attach the spark plug wire and boot to the spark plug.

Unthread the oil and gas tank caps.

Reposition the recoil starter and rethread the caps.

Replace the screws to secure the recoil starter.

Realign the top cover and replace the screws to secure.

Turn the on-off switch to the “on” position and your chainsaw should be ready for use.
