Electric stove burner not working

The most common cause when the surface element won't work is the radiant surface element itself. The radiant surface element - or heating element - can burn out similar to a light bulb. If the surface element won't work and it doesn't have continuity, it will need to be replaced. The radiant surface element is not repairable. 

Electric stove burner won't turn off

Sometimes, when the surface element is shorted out, it is visibly damaged. Inspect the surface element for damage. If the element is damaged, replace it. To determine if the element has shorted out, use a multimeter to test the element for continuity between the prongs and the case. If the radiant surface element shows continuity between the prongs and the case, this indicates that it is shorted out. If the radiant surface element is shorted out, replace it.

Range display board not working

If some of the range's main display is still working, but the surface element "hot" indicator light does not, it's likely a radiant surface element is defective. You can use a multimeter to test the radiant element for electrial continuity to help determine if the part is faulty.

Stove turns off on its own

If the stove surface element does not start working again when the surface element switch or control is turned off and back on or to a different heat setting, it's likely the radiant surface element itself is defective and should be replaced. You can use a multimeter to test the element for electrical continuity to confirm the diagnosis.

Electric stove burner temperature is erratic

The most common cause of a radiant surface element heating erratically is the surface element itself. The radiant surface element - or heating element - can burn out similar to a light bulb. If the surface element only works intermittently, try testing it with a multimeter for electrical continuity. If the element does not have continuity or only intermittent continuity, replace it. The radiant surface element is not repairable.
