A range's main control board will often be used to send voltage to the bake and broil elements or the igniters to heat the oven to the designated temperature. When a temperature sensor senses that the oven has reached the appropriate temperature, the control board should shut off the voltage to the heating circuit. If power is not reaching the light socket or light assembly and the light switch tests positive for electrical continuity when tested with a multimeter, then the control board is likely defective and will need to be replaced.

If the range's oven burners keep sparking all the time and the spark igniter appears to be in good condition, it's likely the main control board is not sensing that the burner has lit and is continuing to send voltage to the sparker. Since control boards are difficult to test, you should confirm other more likely defective components are all working properly before considering a control board replacement.

If the oven fan is not working, the main control board may not be sending power to the fan motor. Check the wiring diagram first before replacing the board. Control boards are often misdiagnosed.

Oven light not turning off

The oven light often gets its power from the main control board. If the control board is shorted the light can stay on. If the light switch or door switch is in the off position, but the light stays on, the control board has likely shorted and will need to be replaced.

The main control board sends power to the display board to operate. If the display board is not receiving  power, the main control board is likely bad and will need to be replaced.

Range making a loud noise

	The main control board has relays that send voltage to various components. If the control board shorts out it may produce a buzzing or popping noise. Check the main control board for burn marks or other signs of damage. If the control board is defective, replace it.

Stove turns off on its own

The main control board sends power to all the components in the stove. If the control board connections are loose, or burnt, or the control board is turning off on its own, one of the relays or other components may be bad and the control will need to be replaced. 

Oven door won't unlock/locks intermittently

The main control board is responsible to for sending voltage to all of the oven's electrical components. If the door lock motor tests appropriately for electrical continuity, but the oven door still won't unlock or locks intermittently, it's possible the main control board is defective. To help determine this, you can test for voltage reaching the door lock motor. If no voltage is reaching the motor, it's likely the control board is faulty and requires replacement.
