Restore proper function with this replacement door switch, part number WD21X10261, for select GE, Whirlpool, Kenmore, Modern Maid, Hotpoint, RCA, Monogram, or GE Profile Dryer, Dishwasher, Range/Stove/Oven, or Washer/Dryer Combo models.

The door switch activates when the dryer door is closed. On most dryers, the door switch makes an audible clicking sound when it activates. To determine if the door switch is working, try starting your dryer and then listen for the “click.” If the door switch makes a clicking sound, it is probably not defective. If you don’t hear a click, use a multimeter to use the door switch for continuity. If the switch does not have continuity, replace it.

Dryer won't stop

A dryer door switch will allow voltage to be sent from the control board to the drive motor once the door is closed and interrupt that voltage when the door is opened. If the dryer is not stopping when the door is opened, the door switch has likely shorted closed. You can use a multimeter to test the door switch for electrical continuity. If the switch tests positive for continuity both before and after actuation, the component is defective and will need to be replaced. 

Oven light is out

Many oven lights are controlled by a door switch that is activated when the door is opened or closed. To determine if the switch is defective, use a multimeter to test it for electrical continuity when actuated. If the door switch does test appropriately for continuity, replace it.

Oven not self-cleaning

A defective door switch may prevent the oven door from locking. The door switch is often part of the circuit that causes the oven door to lock during the self-cleaning cycle. If the oven door is unable to lock, the self-cleaning cycle will not start. To determine whether the door switch is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the door switch does not have continuity, replace it.

Dishwasher buttons/controls not working

If the dishwasher buttons aren't working, it's possible a door switch is malfunctioning and preventing a wash cycle from being started. To determine if the door switch is at fault, use a multimeter to test the switch for continuity. If the switch does not have continuity, replace it.

Dishwasher won't start

The door switch prevents the dishwasher from running while the door is open. If the door switch is defective, the switch will prevent the dishwasher from running even when the door is closed. To determine if the door switch is at fault, use a multimeter to test the switch for continuity. If the switch does not have continuity, replace it.

Dryer has a burning smell

Since the door switch is an electrical component that allows the dryer to run when the door is closed, it can overheat and cause a burning smell. Inspect the switch for any burn marks or corrosion and replace if necessary.

Oven light not turning off

On some models, the door switch controls when the oven light is turned on and off. If the door switch has shorted the light may stay on. You can test the switch for continuity with a multimeter. If the switch shows continuity even in the off position, the switch has shorted and will need to be replaced.

Oven meat thermometer not working

Some oven meat thermometers will not function properly unless the oven door is closed which activates a door switch to alert the control board that the door is closed. If the door switch is defective, the oven meat thermometer may not work. To determine if the switch is defective, use a multimeter to test it for electrical continuity when actuated. If the door switch does test appropriately for continuity, replace it.

Oven door won't unlock/locks intermittently

A defective door switch may prevent the oven door from unlocking or only locking intermittently. If you can't hear the door lock motor running when the self-clean button is pressed, use a multimeter to test the door switch for electrical continuity. If the door switch does not test positive for continuity when the plunger is pressed, the component should be replaced.

Dryer controls don't work

The dryer door switch allows the control to start and run the dryer once the door is fully closed. A faulty door switch may signal that the door is not closed when it is, causing the dryer controls not to work. You can test the door switch for electrical continuity with a multimeter. If the switch does not test postive for continuity when actuated, the switch should be replaced with a new one.
