Trash compactor will not start

Top limit and directional switch for trash compactor. This directional switch interrupts the flow of current to the motor when the compacting ram reaches the top of the compactor.

When the compacting ram reaches the top of the compactor, the directional switch interrupts all current flow to the motor. However, if the directional switch fails, it may prevent the compactor from starting at all. To determine if the directional switch is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the directional switch has no continuity when actuated or has shorted contacts, replace it.

Trash compactor is making loud noise

When the compacting ram reaches the top of the compactor, the directional switch interrupts all current flow to the motor. If the directional switch fails, the motor can continue to run after the ram reaches the top which can eventually result in the trash compactor becoming very noisy during operation. To determine if the directional switch is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the directional switch has shorted contacts, replace it.
