Why is My Washing Machine Making A Loud Noise?
If your washing machine is making a loud noise, first check whether the shipping bolts and foam block were removed from a recently installed washer. These shipping materials keep the tub secure during transport but must be removed before use. If the washer is a noisy washing machine or especially washer loud when spinning, the tub bearing is the next likely cause. A worn tub bearing can produce a rumbling or grinding sound and may require replacing the outer tub and bearing assembly because the repair involves major disassembly. A defective tub seal and bearing kit can cause the same washing machine noise when spinning, especially when water leaks from the bottom of the tub near the transmission. Some models use a rear drum with bearing, which may need to be replaced as an assembly. Finally, an improperly balanced load can make the washer bang or vibrate. Wash similarly weighted items together and avoid running loads that are too small. The rear drum has a bearing or bearings in it to keep the inner tub spinning smoothly. If the tub bearing system is defective the washer can become very noisy. On some machines bearings are sold separately from the rear drum, however we recommend replacing both the outer drum and bearing as an assembly if the manufacturer offers the components together because removing and pressing in the new bearing can be exceptionally difficult.
