Washer won't stop

If your washer won't stop, the most likely cause is water siphoning from the tub. Check that the drain hose ends 30 to 36 inches above the floor, is not sealed tightly in the standpipe, and is not pushed too far down into the drain. Incorrect drain hose installation can make the washer keep running as it continually tries to fill and drain. If the washer drains normally but the washing machine won't stop or remains stuck on a cycle, a defective control board is the next likely cause. Inspect the control board for burned areas or shorted components, though it cannot be easily tested. A faulty main control board can cause the same washer not stopping problem. If both boards appear sound, test the timer with a multimeter and the wiring diagram, then replace it if defective. Disconnect power before inspecting or testing parts, and never work on a washer with energized components. If the water is siphoning from the tub the outlet end of the drain hose is likely lower than the water level in the tub. The drain hose should terminate between 30 inches to 36 inches (77 centimeters to 92 centimeters) above the floor, depending on the model, in a standpipe or laundry tub. If the drain hose is sealed at the top of the standpipe or excess hose is pushed too far down into the pipe, siphoning can also occur.
