Step By Step Instructions

Because of the high voltage and high current used by microwave ovens, be aware that repairing this appliance poses a substantial risk for injury or death if precautions are not taken.

As with any repair, be sure to unplug the appliance before beginning.

You should always unplug the microwave before you attempt any disassembly.

To replace the light socket inside the microwave oven cavity open the microwave door and remove the screws securing the grill.

To replace a light bulb socket at the bottom of microwave, first remove the screws securing the bottom panel and carefully lower the panel.

Slide the grill to the left to release it.

Next, disconnect the wire connector from the socket you’re replacing.

Depress the metal tab on the bracket and remove the old socket.

Next, use pliers to detach the light cover.

You can now unthread the light bulb – because silicone has been applied to the bulb to secure it for shipping, this may require some effort.

Install the new light socket by first transferring the light bulb from the old socket to the new one.

Next, remove the screw on the left securing the control panel and loosen the screw behind the panel.

Now position the new socket on the bracket and bend the metal tab back to secure.

Lift the panel up and pull it forward to detach.

With the new socket in place, reposition the bottom panel and secure it with the screws.

You can now fully remove the screw securing the access grill and pull the grill off.

You’re now ready to plug the microwave back in and confirm that the light functions properly.

Use a small flathead screwdriver to depress the release tab then rotate the old light socket to remove.

Disconnect the wires to fully release the socket.

Install the new light socket by first connecting the wires.

Insert the socket into the air duct and rotate to lock it into place.

Realign the access grill and partially rethread the screw to secure.
