Gas stove burner won't light

The spark electrode sends a spark to ignite the gas in the burner assembly. If the spark electrode is defective or worn out, it might not produce a spark, or the spark might be too weak to ignite the gas. As a result, the spark electrode will make a clicking sound when the burner is turned on, but the burner won't light. If the spark electrode is defective, replace it.

Gas stove burners spark all the time

The range's spark module sends pulses to each spark electrode to create a spark to ignite the gas. If the spark module has a flame sensing function it will automatically stop sending pulses to the electrode when the burner lights. If the electrode is defective the spark module will not be able to sense the flame and continue to allow the electrode to spark after the flame has ignited. Inspect the electrode to see if it's visibly damaged or dirty and replace if necessary.

Range making a loud noise

If the gas is not being ignited promptly, it can build up and flash causing a small "boom" noise in the oven or a "whoosh" noise on the burner. Since the spark module sends the high-voltage pulses to the spark igniters and spark electrodes to light the burners, a malfunction spark module could prevent the oven or stovetop from lighting correctly. You should inspect the spark module for signs of burning or a shorted-out component. You can also use a multimeter to determine if voltage is reaching the spark module. If voltage is reaching the module, but the gas is not igniting promptly, it's possible the spark module is faulty and will need to be replaced.

Stove smells like gas

While all gas ranges will have a slight gas smell when the burners first light, the smell will be more persistent if a stovetop or oven burner does not light promptly. If a stovetop burner doesn't light within three or four seconds, it's possible the burner's spark electrode is defective. Inspect the electrode to see if it's visibly damaged or dirty and replace if necessary.

Instead, put some cleaner on a soft, damp rag, then wipe the surface. Cooktop: You can clean any porcelain cooktop with a non-abrasive cleanser.
