Microwave not working

Switch power precisely with this genuine OEM micro switch, part number 5304520021, designed for select Frigidaire or Ikea Microwave, Range/Stove/Oven, or Oven/Microwave Combo. Repair Clinic offers genuine OEM micro switches.

Most microwaves have three or four door switches (micro switches). When the microwave door closes, the door switches actuate in sequence to ensure that the door is closed properly. If any of the door switches fail, the microwave will not start or heat. To determine if any of the door switches are defective, use a multimeter to test each of the switches for continuity. If any of the door switches do not have continuity, the switch or switches should be replaced.

Microwave light bulb not working

A defective micro switch may not signal the control board that the door is open or closed which may prevent the microwave light from turning on or prevent the button that controls the light from functioning. To determine if any of the micro switches are defective, use a multimeter to test each of the switches for continuity. If any of the micro switches do not have continuity, the switch or switches should be replaced.

Microwave shuts off after a few seconds

A micro switch might be failing intermittently. Check each of the micro switches for signs of overheating, arcing, or burning. If you don’t see any obvious signs of failure, use a multimeter to test each switch for continuity. If any of the switches is visibly damaged or only has intermittent continuity, replace it.

Microwave buttons not working

If none of the microwave buttons are working, you should use a multimeter to test the door switches (micro switches) for electrical continuity. If one of more of the switches test negative for continuity, the switch or switches should be replaced.

Microwave turns on by itself

A microwave that turns on by itself can be caused by a malfunctioning micro switch. You can use a multimeter to test the micro switches to determine if they are functioning appropriately and replace if necessary.

Microwave is sparking or arcing

If the microwave is sparking or arcing in the cabinet area, and not in the oven cavity, you will likely see smoke or there will be a burning smell. One of the appliance's micro switches could have shorted and is causing the sparking or arcing. You should inspect the micro switch for burn marks or damage and test the component with a multimeter to determine if the switch is malfunctioning.

Microwave exhaust fan not working

A defective micro switch may not signal the control board that the door is closed, which can prevent the button that controls the exhaust fan from functioning. To determine if any of the micro switches are defective, use a multimeter to test each of the switches for continuity. If any of the switches do not have continuity, the switch or switches should be replaced.

Microwave producing a burning smell

If you've confirmed the oven cavity has been cleaned of all food debris and the waveguide cover is in good condition, a shorted micro switch could be one of the components producing a burning smell. You should inspect the component for any burn marks or damage. You can also use a multimeter to test the micro switches for electrical continuity. If one of more of the switches test negative for continuity or for a short, the switch or switches should be replaced.
