If a freezer is not working, but you're hearing a clicking sound, you should confirm that power if getting to the compressor. If no power is reaching the compressor, it's likely the control board is defective. However, control boards are often misdiagnosed—before replacing the control board, first check more commonly defective parts. If you have determined that all of the other components are working properly, replace the control board.

Freezer defrost drain frozen

A frozen freezer defrost drain can be caused by the freezer temperature being too cold. If the temperature is significantly below 0° Fahrenheit and the freezer's thermistor shows appropriate resistance changes when tested with a multimeter, it's possible the control board is faulty and sending continuous voltage to the compressor. You can inspect the board for signs of burning or a shorted component and replace if necessary.

Freezer buttons not working

The control board sends power to the freezer components. If the control board has power to it but the display is dead or the buttons are not responding, the control is likey bad and will need to be replaced.

The control board has relays that send power to the freezer components. If the control board is defective, it may stop sending voltage to the defrost system. Control boards are frequently misdiagnosed—before replacing the control, first test all of the defrost system components. If none of the defrost system components are defective, consider replacing the control board.
